New Learning Center started modestly, with Partners, a program that aspired to being a "woman-centered, whole-life" recovery program with the mission of providing comprehensive, holistic, innovative and accountable services for women whose substance abuse is a significant barrier to parenting, employment and self-sufficiency. We had learned through experience that 12-Step based programs were, for the most part, "men's programs colored pink." Partners started as an attempt to understand and meet the multiple and progressive needs of women, even though available programs generally focus on the presenting issue and overlook the context in which such problems fester and thrive.
